zondag 24/10

Yesterday we had a fantastic day walking through the national park near Warsaw. It was much more relaxing than biking through the Warsawian traffic. (But, however it was dangerous, riding the bike itself was fantastic!) The bus that drove us back to Warsaw yesterday was worth a half an hour conversation according to Evert, Connie and me. We wondered how it was possible that a bus looking like this had a motor that was still running and could even drive with 40 people in it without falling apart. But our conclusion was in the end: we are just spoiled consumers! Right now we are on our way to Krakow and the mountains. I can’t wait to be there!

maandag 25/10
We are travelling in a quite environmentally friendly way (by train)
through the … to Cracow with our Dutch sisters (in this train department)
and brothers (somewhere else). Snacks they offer here are in one-way
packages but damn them! We will have something good and tasty in the town.
It would be good to have these local train lines kept, which the IFI want to
liquidate and to that they may leave only the main routes like e.g. this
one. Why is it shaking so muuucchhh..?

Polski Klub Ekologiczny – Kraków
Now we are sitting in the beautiful conference room at the Polish
Ecological Club again. We just finished an interesting experiment in GDM
(Group Decision Making). After many clarifying questions we voted on the way
to go to the natural reservation. The result of the voting was that we will
follow the original plan. We’ll take the 02.00-hr train into the mountains.
Tomorrow will be a day with many questions and surprises:
– will we be awake or sleeping?
– have we been robbed during the trip in the nighttrain?
– we will find the cottage! (will we?)
One thing is sure the weather should be like today. Today I liked our train journey to Krakow best. The yellow trees were glowing in the sun and reflected in the mirrors in the train infinitely. In the train we did an intriguing psychoanalytic drawing game. We all had to draw something and afterwards tell about each other’s drawings.

Observations, PEC building 22.45 uur
Marij, Janita and Krystof are hugging and making a sleeping train. Marike and Roos are talking about books. Dennie is tying his shoelaces. Jaap and Bart are playing chess. Obby is writing in the finance book. Konrad is making tea. Evert and Karen are talking about their work and study. Olek is sitting in the window enjoying his cup of tea in silence. Gosia is looking at the crowd in amazement. Jarek is explaining something very important in German and Connie listens. Magda fell asleep on three chairs. Mireia went to the toilet. Rosa is cleaning up the empty bags. We will leave this place in 15 minutes and then… who knows. A heavy night coming up.

dinsdag 26/10

Bartne
Today was a dumpling day.
Many hours walking from our cottage, we found a restaurant built around
a speaking elevator that served us tea, coffee, dumplings and bills.
Elevators serve very nice food!
The restaurant was perfect. We were the only customers and it sheltered
us from the rain. The only serious shower today.
(Evert)
We could have also bought a shower from the elevator, but it would have been of no use, since we had a few more kilometres to go. We saw a few graveyards; there are quite a lot of them around. People have given them numbers, to make them easier to recognise.
(Olek)
All right, I can speak English but if I can write it, I don’t know. Especially in the dark. But the trip we made today is worth it. We went to the rocks. The group was Konrad, Obby, Mireia and I. We, the girls, were all cripple (kreupel), so we didn’t go very fast. The climbing up was hard, because we weren’t just to it. At the top we had a nice view, trees all over that coloured red and yellow. And we saw some animals. After the rocks we took a short cut and crossed the river and I almost fell in it. And I almost fell in the mud when we went into the open field. It looked like gold.
When we were back, we first cleaned ourselves and then the cottage. It was really quiet. Then the other group came back and it became crowded. Now we are drinking tea and make a lot of jokes.
(Rosa)
Today was a very, VERY nice day. Hey! And it still lasts and the spirit becomes warmer and warmer!!!
We did a great walk, in the middle of which we reached a restaurant. We ordered dimplings and I really wonder what the elevator put inside them, because after eating them people discovered their vocation – to become singers! Once one started to sing, he couldn’t stop and infected the others with it.
Before it, I gave a workshop how to get closer to nature – conclusion: each tree has his own individual shape.
Later on we were walking in the deep and dark night and Marij with her cat’s eyes all the time noticed some special details like for example an insect lighting out. We found out that we are super women (nobody can disagree with it). 10-kilometre walk in the dark night is nothing for us!
When we found our beloved cottage, our wonderful shelter, we screamed of joy. In the evening Roos delighted us with great cake which immediately disappeared.

Connie the strong
Today it’s
Thursday, and we just cleaned the cottage, we are still busy. Connie is
still cutting wood. Maybe the house is lot cleaner than the day we came. Who
knows?
We made very good for ourselves with the food we still had. It was very
tasteful. At the moment Dennie is playing guitar, chickens are eating the
breadcrumbs and yelling. Janneke is looking for Connie, she has still her
shoes on. Is there something that must be done upstairs?
Rosa started cleaning the floor. I wish we could stay here any longer
but we also want to see more of Warszawa. Time flies when you’re having fun.
It’s the truth: because it’s almost time to go back.
Who of the Dutch people knows a really difficult sentence for the Polish
people?
(Mireia)
The guitar has been played for many times today. I think I heard 'happy
birthday’ more times than all my birthdays together. It is a great birthday
and beautiful weather with sun and all. Happy people in a clean cottage. I
could stay here forever (or at least a couple of weeks). Tonight at 8.00 we
will take the bus to Gorlice and then the train to Warshau. But first we
have to walk 10 km with our luggage.

vrijdag 29/10
science and culture beklommen.

Python film achter elkaar aanrennen.
Waar is
Rare vogel!
(Janneke)
opmerking: De megafoon was voor de fietsdemo!
Lieve Tammo,
Sorry sorry sorry. Ik heb je totaal verwaarloosd! Shame on me. I want to
make it alright with you again by writing a long story. Much has happened in
between. The Polish mountains were fantastic. We had a really nice time,
walking, talking, singing, dancing and everything. Because we were together
with the group all the time (even sleeping with about 20 people on about 25
square metres), we got to know each other much quicker. So it was very
positive for becoming friends with the Polish people.
Coming back from the beautiful, peaceful mountains gave a lot of us a
sort of a shock. Back in hectic Warsaw we are! Travelling in crowded trams,
lectures, viewing Warsaw were the things we did the past two days. Friday
night we had a very nice time at the house of Olek’s friend Mirek. It was a
shame that because of miscommunication things went a bit wrong in the end.
But after a good night of sleep and many talks to all kind of sad people, I
think the problems are solved now, so that we can have now a very nice last
evening party dinner. We are in some sort of squat (there are no people
living here) having a really nice campfire. Warm. Cosy (how Dutch). In the
afternoon, we’ve had a really smooth going evaluation in which everybody has
said what he wanted to say about our stay in Poland. Also we talked about
strange, eye-catching things from the Polish people. Strange around here
(the squat) is that we have all kind of strange people running around and
screaming without any visible purpose. Strange…
Bye, bye,
(Gineke)
Yesterday we had a great party at the house of Mirek, an old friend of Olek. There was vodka, enough Polish people and late at night even the wheelchair joined the party. I slept very well on a carpet. This had a very creative effect on my skin, but afterwards I was awake, without a hangover. After cleaning the house we had coffee and a workshop on fighting techniques. This party and the morning after were some of the best moments of the exchange. I really felt at home. There was no need for integration, it just happened.
The party at the squat was quite different. We were sitting in a big circle. It was dark and everybody was singing for food. The atmosphere was very strange with us, squatters and a bunch of drunk men together in a bunker like fortress.
All of us were preparing for saying goodbye maybe. Anyway I felt happy and upset in the same time.

zondag 31/10
Dear Tammo,
I am now in the train, travelling through Deutschland (Germany), it’s long ago that I wrote you.
Yesterday there was a great last evening party at the squat. It seemed an old castle. We made agniskol (?!) (=campfire) in the middle after taking wood in the neighbourhood. Some people took only small branches with leaves, others took almost whole fallen trees. In a hungry mood we played music (djembe, 2 little drums, didgeridoo) and a choir. Then Konrad came with the meal. We took newspapers and aluminium plates and ate with our hands. Fantastic!
(Now I’m writing, Janneke fell on the floor because her chair lifted up, intermezzo)
Inside on the background I heard molotovcocktails and barking dogs. The squatters were flying like bats.
Leider, helaas, sorrowful, the first group, by whom I participate, must leave. We took the food in the bus. I was dancing in the bus. In the office we took our stuff and 'goodbyed’ the half of the stayers. The rest we 'goodbyed’ at the station. Most in a hugging way.
At our first stop, Warsaw Central, Mireia was there an she asked for a cookie.
So we travelled back, and at the German/Polish border a Chinese man was put outside on the street without a passport. Now hardly sleeping we must hurry, because just at once we were in Berlin and the first group was already out of the train when we should still take our stuff. (yesterday we drank vodka, very nice experience). Hurry hurry hurry!!! We took a train to Berlin Zoological Garten. We drank expensive coffee and tea there. Roos ordered milk, but she first got beer (she said 'mielch’)
After it we went to our train that came more than 20 minutes late. Now we only have to wait ca. 2 hours in Leer.
Oh shit I forgot that I could write Nederlands want er zijn geen Polen meer bij. Groetjes,
(Bart)

We did a good job!
